Science in the face of problems of the modern world: drought and water management and energy security.
May 17, 12:00-12:50 pm
Forum in the Mikołajska Hall, Palace of Culture and Science
In the first part of the meeting, Prof. Ewa Krogulec, PhD, will talk about the phenomenon of drought and its consequences. Drought is today one of the biggest problems and threats to the world. It affects not only the planet’s natural resources, water management, food production sectors and many industries, but also the level of socio-economic development. We will try to answer the questions of how the environment and the economy are adapting to the use of less water resources and how we ourselves can adapt to use less water.
In the second part of the meeting, Prof. Agata Dziewulska, Ph.D., a specialist in security sciences, will speak about the challenges of Poland’s energy security, including nuclear energy. In this area, scientists today are looking for answers to numerous questions: how to use available energy resources to ensure the safety of people and societies? What is the nature of environmental and political changes and can they be controlled? What is the optimal energy model for Poland in the near and long term? What is the role of people, businesses, governments and policymakers in building energy security?
